Position: Emergency Operations Volunteer
Location of work: Remote
Start Date and Duration: Immediate start with commitment of 20 hours/week for 4 weeks.

TRANSIT INITIATIVES is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that helps high-risk Afghan individuals flee the Taliban and reach safety. We are American international conflict and crisis experts with over 50 years of collective experience in conflict zones, including Afghanistan. We have mobilized around the urgent need to evacuate our colleagues and others who are at risk of being killed by the Taliban. We bring on-the-ground experience managing programs and resources in similar environments as well as personal connections and understanding of the threats that face artists, activists, ethnic minorities, and LGBTQIA people under the Taliban. Since late August, we have helped hundreds of people flee to safety outside of the country. We continue to support roughly 400 people who are in hiding, waiting for an opportunity to leave. We provide temporary shelter to at-risk Afghans, facilitate passport, and visa applications, and provide emergency support while evacuees wait. We connect them with the safest flight and overland options possible and link them with other organizations as needed.

Transit Initiatives seeks volunteers who can dedicate at least 20 hours per week for 4 weeks. We are looking for the following skills:
o Proposal writing and fundraising expertise, with specific experience securing funding from foundations and high-value donors.
o Security and logistics experience in Afghanistan or conducting cross-border operations in similar contexts.
o Expertise in refugee visa processing, including legal expertise.
o Experience writing and publishing foreign policy op eds.
o Fluent spoken and written English. Dari a plus.

All candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and collaborating within a team.
