Last month i accumulated and published, in my blog, information about the many organizations that have mobilized to help our Afghan allies that are still in need of assistance and evacuation. This alert is in support of one of these humanitarian organization that greatly needs a Volunteer to help with the #AfghanEvac effort. Position: Emergency Operations Volunteer TRANSIT INITIATIVES is an all-volunteer, not-for-profit organization that helps high-risk Afghan individuals flee the Taliban and reach safety. We are American international conflict and crisis experts with over 50 years of collective experience in conflict zones, including Afghanistan. We have mobilized around the urgent need to evacuate our colleagues and others who are at risk of being killed by the Taliban. We bring on-the-ground experience managing programs and resources in similar environments as well as personal connections and understanding of the threats that face artists, activists, ethnic minorities, and LGBTQIA people under the Taliban. Since late August, we have helped hundreds of people flee to safety outside of the country. We continue to support roughly 400 people who are in hiding, waiting for an opportunity to leave. We provide temporary shelter to at-risk Afghans, facilitate passport, and visa applications, and provide emergency support while evacuees wait. We connect them with the safest flight and overland options possible and link them with other organizations as needed. Transit Initiatives seeks volunteers who can dedicate at least 20 hours per week for 4 weeks.
