Position Title:  Team Leader

Location: (TBD), in Myanmar, with regular various field and  travel required

Start Date:  This is a funded position --- Team Leader is needed as soon as possible.

Works closely with: Chief of Party (CoP) – FSI+ to ensure cohesion with house policies and appropriate tactics for the Myanmar context; or Project team.

Supervises: Senior Agronomist/ Extension Specialist, Business Development personnel, Technology Advisor/Training Specialist, M&E Specialist, Administration Officer, Finance Officer

Background:

The project runs through the end of 2026. The project will contribute to improved farm advisory services in the Dry Zone of Myanmar through strengthened agricultural input and service providers, complemented by farmer and extension worker-level activities.

Job Summary:

  • Articulate an overall vision for the project, assisting project team members and project stakeholders in understanding the post-project end state and working towards the same.
  • The Team Leader (TL) is responsible for overall project planning, implementation and management; project quality; team management; financial and administrative management; and monitoring, evaluation and reporting. This includes creating and implementing seasonal work-plans and project monitoring, evaluation and learning plans, as well as measuring and reporting on progress and being the primary point of contact for information on project activities.
  • The TL will ensure the quality and appropriateness of the technical and business development services provided through the project and the quality of the results generated, ensuring that results have a high likelihood of sustainability and have the highest possible probability of bringing about envisioned impacts. While the TL should have a grounding in agriculture, the project team does contain sound agricultural expertise; therefore, the onus will be upon the TL to provide a vision for, and heavy technical support related to, business development services provided for agricultural input and service providers in a manner that brings about change both at the retailer and farmer levels. TL is the accountable person for the achievement of project results and impact.
  • The TL will have management responsibility for all project personnel and be the representative to project stakeholders, ensuring a constructive, motivated and cohesive team environment that is conducive to high levels of performance and success. The TL will review the performance of project team members, provide appropriate direction and daily management and capacity building inputs, and take corrective action as required.
  • The TL will ensure a smooth and collaborative working relationship with  Fund counterparts, private sector counterparts, the FSI+ project, and the Department of Agriculture.
  • The TL will oversee the project’s operations, including but not limited to staffing and team structure, administration, office facilities, activity plans and structures (for example, number and content of trainings per week), transport facilities, etc. The TL will oversee the project Operations Management Policy. The TL will coordinate the activities of short-term inputs and consultancies.
  • Prepare weekly and semi-annual project reports.
  • Oversee activity planning and M&E event planning, ensuring the quality of the same.
  • Lead weekly project team meetings.
  • Any other duties as assigned.c

Minimum Qualifications Requiements

  • Minimum 15 years of work experience, of which five (10) years are related to field-level, donor funded, international development projet management in agribusiness.
  • Minimum five (5) years past experience and familiarity with agricultural development and private sector engagement programming in the Southeast Asian context. In particular, familiarity with agro-input business development and business models for farm service provision is important.
  • A Master’s degree in agricultural economics, agribusiness, or business administration. Alternatively, an agricultural sciences background with significant work experience in agribusiness is acceptable.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-cultural environments, demonstrating a tolerance for ambiguity, very strong communication skills, an open mind, and high levels of patience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute project activities, deliver project results, and perform project M&E functions.
  • Multiple Country work experience is required.
  • Past experience in South Asia is required.
  • Familiarity with Myanmar culture and basic Myanmar language skills would be an asset.
